The Story of this Armor

Turtle Shell

Honu — navigation and protection

Navigation & Protection

The Legend

The honu crosses thousands of miles of open ocean and still finds the beach it was born on. Its shell was struck on those who travelled far from home and were expected back. The plates are drawn joined, because shelter is something you carry rather than something you find.

Every mark carried on this garment is drawn from the sacred tatau of the Ali'i Nui — struck by hand before it is ever printed on cloth. What was once worn in the skin is now worn into competition: the same protection, the same lineage, carried by a new generation of warriors.

Nothing here is decoration. The motif is a covenant — you are not buying a pattern, you are accepting stewardship of a story that refused to be erased.

Wear it for
Wear it when you are travelling — away games, road seasons, anywhere far from your people. The honu crosses open ocean and still finds the beach it was born on.
How it is placed
Joined plates across the back and shoulders: shelter carried, not found.
What it was struck for

ProtectionMarks struck as cover. The old people wore them where the body breaks first, and they are placed here for the same reason.

FlowMarks that follow the line of the body rather than cut across it — for speed, for turning, for moving the way water moves.
