The Story of this Armor
Side Panel Tatau
The full-length telling
Knee-length hardwood cut in tonal onyx mesh. The side-panel tatau runs waist to hem uninterrupted — the full length of the story, worn on the floor.
The Legend
Where a band records a crossing, the side panel records a life. Struck from ribs to knee across many sittings, it was the longest work an artist would undertake, and it was never begun on someone whose story was not yet worth the pain of it.
Every mark carried on this garment is drawn from the sacred tatau of the Ali'i Nui — struck by hand before it is ever printed on cloth. What was once worn in the skin is now worn into competition: the same protection, the same lineage, carried by a new generation of warriors.
Nothing here is decoration. The motif is a covenant — you are not buying a pattern, you are accepting stewardship of a story that refused to be erased.

What this pattern carries

Side Panel Tatau
- Grit
- Unity
- Wear it for
- Wear it when the work is the whole story. The full panel took many sittings; it is a mark for people who measure themselves in years, not sessions.
- How it is placed
- Struck from ribs to knee along the outer surface, fading toward the centre so the density sits where the body turns.
- What it was struck for
Grit — Marks earned slowly. Every stroke was a sitting endured; the pattern is a record of what the wearer kept showing up for.
Unity — Marks that only make sense with others in them — family, crew, team. Worn so no one carries the weight of a season alone.
